Q. Can CBT be helpful if I have health problems other than insomnia?

A: Since most people with chronic insomnia have other physical and mental health problems, this is an important question. There is evidence CBT-I may be as effective for patients with other medical/psychiatric conditions as for those with insomnia only. If you have ongoing health issues, the CBT-I clinician may wish to speak with your other health care providers before beginning treatment. In general, it is best to start CBT-I when your other medical and/or psychiatric concerns are deemed to be stable.
