Behavioral Component
A review of sleep hygiene issues will help you become more aware of how your lifestyle can contribute to insomnia. For example, you may receive advice about limiting caffeine consumption, the timing of exercise, and other behaviors. Most patients with chronic insomnia will have heard of "sleep hygiene" and will have seen "Do and Do Not" lists that are widely available. It is important to know that, while life style issues may aggravate the insomnia, there is little evidence to suggest that chronic insomnia is caused by poor sleep hygiene alone. Accordingly, your clinician will review the rules with you and determine which do and don’t apply to your situation.
