Cognitive Component
The depth and extent of the cognitive component varies according to the needs of the patient and the preferences of the clinician. At a minimum, there is an educational process in which patients learn "how and why" insomnia occurs, the purpose of each treatment component, and the "ways and means" to adhere to recommendations that can sometimes be difficult to follow. Beyond education, the cognitive component may involve procedures that directly target inaccurate "beliefs" about insomnia or utilizes methods which reduce sleep related worry. |
